An obsession with skin care

As the owner of Chicago’s Le Bon Visage Corrective Skin Care and Cosmetics and as a licensed esthetician, I am obsessed with skin care. Whether I am researching the latest products or revisiting beauty secrets of the past, poring over medical and scientific studies or creating home care regimens, I am focused on providing people with a roadmap to great skin. Navigating the beauty jungle is difficult, often confusing and potentially expensive. Through this blog, I hope to teach you how to get the skin of your dreams without busting your budget or spending hours on your appearance.

yes! as an almost 50 year old woman I struggle with dry skin/ break-outs… i wear foundation (liquid or mineral) but have yet to find the “right” cleanser/ exfoliator… i don’t want to bust my budget, but do want good products. HELP!!! a) foundation, b) eyeshadow that stays ON, c) mascara that does not clump/ run and can be taken off without rubbing my eyes raw… this is just the beginning. more!!!

thank-you for the blog. i intend to be a regular.

    Hi, TC!

Thanks for checking out my blog. I promise to have more info up soon!

Based on how you describe your skin, I can give you the following tips in terms of cleanser/exfoliation:

    1) Since you are dry, wash your face only one time per day – in the evening. Even the most gentle cleansers can be too hard on dry skin.

    2) Use a basic, basic cleanser. Cleanser has one purpose – to clean your skin. Therefore, all of the bells and whistles that can be found in cleansers these days do nothing buy irritate your skin and drive up the price. I like Purpose or Cetaphil – both of which can be found in the drugstore.

For exfoliators, I would use a mild chemical exfoliant. I really love Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion and Peel System. Use this 1-2x per week, depending on how your skin tolerates it.

As for make-up, I currently use and recommend L’Oreal True Match foundation. It lasts well, feels light and comes in a great variety of pigments.

For eyeshadow that stays on, I recommend getting an eye shadow primer. L’Oreal De-Crease Eyeshadow Base works well and is relatively inexpensive. Your colors should last longer and look more true to their color using a base.

Finally, for Mascara, I have yet to find any mascara that I like more than L’Oreal Voluminous. It’s lush and doesn’t clump as much as most other brands.

    Hope this helps!!

    Liz
